 There is and There are

There is    แปลว่า "มี" ใช้กับคำนามนับได้เอกพจน์ และคำนามนับไม่ได้

There are แปลว่า "มี" ใช้กับคำนามนับได้พหูพจน์

ยกตัวอย่าง เช่น There is / There are มีความหมายว่า "มี" ใช้เมื่อต้องการจะบอกว่า "มีอะไรอยู่ที่ไหน"

- How many plates are there on the table? (มีจานอยู่บนโต๊ะกี่ใบ)

  There is a plate on the table. (มีจานอยู่บนโต๊ะ 1 ใบ)

- How many apples are there in the basket? (มีแอ๊ปเปิ้ลอยู่ในตะกร้ากี่ผล)

  There is an apple in the basket. (มีแอ๊ปเปิ้ลอยู่ในตะกร้า 1 ผล)

- How many cups are there in the cupboard ? (มีถ้วยอยู่ในตู้กี่ใบ)

  There are twelve cups in the cupboard. (มีถ้วย 12 ใบ อยู่ในตู้)

 

อ่านประโยคต่อไปนี้นะคะ..

This is my refrigerator. There are many things.

There is a bottle of water on the top shelf.

There are a lot of eggs on the second shelf.  

There are a lot of fruits.

There is a little beer in the bottle.  

There is a little pork in the freeze. 

There are vegetables in the bottom.

 

  จากประโยคตัวอย่างข้างต้นจะพบว่า There is / There are ใช้แตกต่างกัน

ดังนี้

1. There is ใช้นำหน้าคำนามเอกพจน์ หรือคำนามนับไม่ได้ เช่น

There is a bottle of jam in the fridge.        (มีแยม 1 ขวดอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
There is soup in the bowl.          (มีซุปอยู่ในชาม)
There is yogurt in the glass.          (มีโยเกิตอยู่ในแก้ว)
There is honey in the jar.        (มีน้ำผึ้งอยู่ขวดโหล)
There is rice in the plate.       (มีข้าวอยู่ในจาน)
There is water in the glass.       (มีน้ำอยู่ในแก้ว)
There is fish sauce in the bottle.        (มีน้ำปลาอยู่ในขวด)
There is salt in the bottle.       (มีเกลืออยู่ในขวด)

2. There are  ใช้นำหน้าคำนามพหูพจน์ เช่น ถ้าเป็นคำนามนับไม่ได้นำคำนามนั้นมาใส่ภาชนะหรือสิ่งที่บรรจุอยู่เสมอ เช่น

There are two mangoes in the fridge.        (มีมะม่วง 2 ผลอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
There are two cans of coke in the fridge.        (มีโค้ก 2 กระป๋องในตู้เย็น)
There are four cherries  in the fridge .         (มีเชอรี่ 4 ผลอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
There are three jars of jam in the fridge .       (มีแยม 3 ขวดโหลอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
There are two kilos of pork  in the fridge .       (มีหมู 2 กิโลอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
There are five carrots in the fridge .       (มีแครอท 5 ผลอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
There are three lemons in the fridge .       (มีมะนาว 3 ผลอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
There are two boxes of milk in the fridge .       (มีนม 2 กล่องอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
There are six bottles of beer in the fridge .     (มีเบียร์ 6 ขวดอยู่ในตู้เย็น)
